According to § 19 (1) of the German Value Added Tax Act (UStG), value-added tax (VAT) is not charged or displayed on invoices due to small business (Kleinunternehmer) status. Consequently, no VAT identification number (Umsatzsteuer-Identifikationsnummer) is provided.
